How My Story Can Help You on Your Path to Transformation
Jan 08, 2025Back in the mid-90s, I was just 26 years old, navigating the chaotic world of motherhood with two young children. Exhaustion was my constant companion, and I thought that stress, hair loss, and dry skin were just part of the package. During my six-month-old's naps, I would settle my four-year-old on the couch with The Lion King, allowing myself a few precious minutes of sleep, fueled by endless pots of coffee. I was struggling to get through each day, feeling lost and overwhelmed.
It wasn't until a gynecology appointment that my doctor connected the dots and referred me to an endocrinologist. That’s when I received my diagnosis: Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I was prescribed medication, and I naively thought that would solve all my problems. Back then, my understanding of health and wellness was limited, reflecting the 90s mindset. However, this diagnosis ignited a fire within me—a curiosity that has only grown over the years.
Why I’m Sharing My Story
As I began to understand what made me feel better—losing weight, gaining strength, and nurturing my body—I realized I wasn’t alone in my struggles. I wanted to share my journey with other women facing similar challenges, whether due to autoimmune issues or other health struggles. I truly believe that we can all take control of our health and emerge feeling strong, confident, and vibrant.
My Background in Health and Fitness
When I first set out to become a personal trainer, I had no idea that it would lead me on a 25-year journey of transformation into a health coach. My qualifications reflect my commitment to understanding wellness beyond mere dress sizes or numbers on a scale. True health is about how you feel each day, enjoying the activities you love as you age, and being able to move freely—without those “old person” noises!
Throughout my journey, I worked with clients who were dealing with far more than just weight loss. They faced chronic pain, autoimmune disorders, and various health challenges. This realization drove me to deepen my knowledge through certifications in Pilates, The MELT Method, Neurokinetic Therapy, and The Integrative Institute for Nutrition. Understanding how hormones affect our bodies became essential, especially as my clients and I navigated the complexities of menopause.
Through my experiences, I developed my signature coaching program, 6 Pillars of Wellness, a holistic approach designed to empower you to take charge of your health and well-being. From years of working in a gym and working with clients for just one or two hours a week, I realized clients needed more. More than just an hour of my help once a week. To truly help clients achieve the lifestyle and health they craved, they needed more. They needed more guidance, support and accountability.
The Importance of Sticking to New Habits
One of the most crucial aspects of acquiring new skills and achieving goals is sticking to new habits and routines. But let’s face it: navigating this journey alone can be daunting. Sticking to new habits is essential because they form the foundation of lasting change in our lives. Consistent habits help us establish routines that make healthy choices easier and more automatic, allowing us to focus on enjoying the journey rather than constantly battling against ourselves.
To become consistent in new habits, start small—focus on one or two changes at a time, and celebrate your progress along the way. Setting specific goals, tracking your achievements, and finding an accountability partner can also make a world of difference. Remember, it’s not about perfection; it’s about progress and creating a lifestyle that supports your health and well-being! With the right support and strategies, you can turn those initial efforts into lifelong habits that empower you on your journey.
Why Work with a Coach?
In today’s world, you can find almost any information you need online. While some people successfully piece together what they learn and apply it to their lives, one of the biggest struggles I hear from clients is the need for accountability. They want a real person to listen to them, to help them decipher what will work best for them. And I completely understand that need. Over the past few years, I’ve worked with coaches myself, and I firmly believe that having a coach is the quickest way to reach your goals.
Think of your weight loss and health goals like a football game. Without a coach on the sidelines helping the players organize and strategize, they may be a team, but they probably won’t score any goals. I help my clients work through past and present struggles and blocks, guiding them closer to their goals.
Embrace Your Future
At nearly 58 years old, I love where I am in my health and wellness journey. I’m excited to keep moving forward and look ahead to at least another 40 years of inspiring others to take the best care of themselves and enjoy this amazing journey. Let’s become friends and travel this path together!
