How to Feel at Home in Your Body After 50

Why Women Over 50 Start to Feel Like Strangers in Their Own Bodies

“What helps most with belly fat?”

“Why do I keep waking up in the middle of the night?”

“How did I gain ten pounds when I haven’t changed anything?”

Women ask me these questions all the time.

But after twenty-five years of working with women, I don’t think those are the real questions.

What I’m usually hearing is:

I don’t feel like myself anymore.

And I get it.

Somewhere between menopause, work, raising children, caring for aging parents, stress, and all the responsibilities we’ve carried for decades, a lot of us start to feel like strangers in our own bodies.

The body that once felt predictable now feels unfamiliar.

The energy that used to come a little easier now feels harder to find.

The confidence we took for granted feels like it’s sitting just out of reach.

And underneath all of it is this quiet longing:

I just want to feel like me again.

I understand that feeling.

I’m 59 years old. I’ve lived with Hashimoto’s for more than thirty years. My body has changed. My hormones have changed. My priorities have changed.

And still, I don’t wake up wishing for the body I had at 35.

I wake up wanting to feel strong enough to bike with my family, get up and down off the floor with my granddaughter, travel, teach, and live fully.

Because feeling at home in our bodies has very little to do with perfection.

It has everything to do with the relationship we have with ourselves.

What It Really Means to Feel at Home in Your Body After 50

For years, I thought feeling good came from finding the perfect plan.

The perfect workout.
The perfect supplement.
The perfect routine.

What I’ve learned instead is that feeling at home in your body comes from something much deeper.

It comes from paying attention.
It comes from listening.
It comes from choosing, over and over again, to care for yourself in small, steady ways.

Sometimes that looks like strength training.
Sometimes it looks like nourishing food that keeps your blood sugar steadier.
Sometimes it looks like MELT.

And sometimes it looks like a walk after dinner, an earlier bedtime, or taking two quiet minutes to breathe, reset, and remember that you matter too.

Because that’s really the shift.

The woman who feels at home in her body isn’t waiting for life to calm down before she starts taking care of herself.

She knows life may never fully calm down.
There will always be something — work, family, travel, stress, responsibility.

The difference is that she no longer sees caring for herself as something she’ll get to later.

She understands that her energy, health, strength, and peace of mind are not luxuries.
They’re what help her show up for the life she actually wants to live.

And if you’re reading this thinking, I want that, but I don’t know where to start, I want to say this clearly:

You don’t need to change everything at once.
You don’t need another strict plan.
You don’t need more willpower.

Sometimes the first step is simply creating a moment of calm and beginning to rebuild trust with your body again.

That’s why I created my free 7-Minute Reset.

I made it for high-achieving women — especially professional women and lawyers — who are used to carrying a lot, staying on top of everything, and being the one others rely on. It’s seven minutes to step out of the noise, settle your system, and come back to yourself.

Because feeling at home in your body isn’t about becoming someone new.

It’s about coming back to yourself.
