Before Another Diet: A Better Approach to Weight Loss
If you’ve tried to lose weight more than once, you probably know the pattern.
You decide you’re going to do something about your belly. Maybe your clothes aren't fitting the way they used to, you don't feel as comfortable in your body, or you're avoiding certain outfits because you don't feel as confident in them anymore.
So you decide this is the time.
You’re going to eat better. Maybe cut calories. Maybe eat more protein. Maybe try fasting. Maybe cut carbs. Maybe start walking or exercising again.
And sometimes it works for a while.
You see the scale move. Your clothes feel a little better. You feel like you're finally getting somewhere.
Then something changes. You stop following the plan. You eat differently. You stop exercising as consistently. And eventually, you find yourself back where you started, wondering why you can't seem to make yourself stick with anything.
So you decide you need another plan.
But what if the problem isn't that you haven't found the right diet?
What if you're starting in the wrong place?
What do you actually want?
Yes, maybe you really do want to lose the belly.
But why?
Maybe you're tired of pulling at your shirt because you don't like the way it sits around your middle. Maybe you want to tuck your shirt in again. Maybe you want to wear a pair of jeans without wondering how your stomach looks. Maybe you want to feel attractive and confident in your clothes.
Maybe you're tired of being exhausted when you get home from work. You want more energy. You want to sleep better. You want to feel stronger when you move through your day.
Maybe you want to travel without worrying about whether your body can handle it. You want to hike, play with your grandchildren, play pickleball, get down on the floor and get back up, or simply feel good doing the things you enjoy.
Those are very different reasons than simply saying, "I need to lose weight."
And they're much more connected to the life you actually want to live.
This is where I think we get stuck
When women decide they're going to take better care of themselves, they usually start with their environment.
They change the food in the kitchen.
They download a workout.
They buy the supplements.
They sign up for a gym.
They decide they're going to walk every day.
There's nothing wrong with any of those things. In fact, those behaviors matter.
But if you haven't decided why you're doing them, it's very easy to stop doing them when the initial motivation wears off.
That's why I believe we need to go deeper than the goal.
Instead of starting with "I want to be healthier" or "I need to lose my belly," start by asking:
What do I want my health to make possible?
What do I want to feel?
How do I want to move through my life?
What matters enough to me that I'm willing to make different choices?
For me, my purpose is to feel strong, healthy and confident. I want to be able to move through life with ease.
That purpose has helped me define what I value.
I value nourishing my body with whole foods. I value sleep. I value strength and movement. I value taking time to pray and meditate. I value doing MELT because I don't want a day to go by without giving my body the rest and recovery it needs and deserves.
Those values influence the choices I make.
And over time, those choices have become part of who I am.
I'm a woman who takes care of herself.
That doesn't mean I always feel like doing it.
I didn't feel like doing my sprint workout this morning. I had to get out of the house earlier than usual, and it would've been very easy to skip it.
But I knew why I was doing it. I knew it supported something I value—being strong and powerful as I age—and I knew it was consistent with the woman I want to be.
So I set my alarm, got up and did it.
That's very different from waking up every Thursday and trying to convince myself to be motivated.
This is the part most diets don't teach you
A diet can tell you what to eat.
A workout program can tell you what exercises to do.
But neither one necessarily helps you figure out why taking care of yourself matters to you, what you value, or how you want to see yourself.
And without that deeper connection, you can end up relying on motivation to keep doing the things you said you wanted to do.
Motivation is great when you have it.
But it isn't a very reliable strategy.
I want something different for you.
I want you to understand what your body needs now and why you're willing to give it that support.
That's part of what we'll work on inside the 28-Day Belly Reset.
Yes, we're going to talk about the practical things.
We'll look at food choices that support steadier blood sugar and help you build satisfying meals. We'll work on strength and the movements you can start using right away. We'll talk about daily movement, stress and recovery, and ways to support your body when life feels demanding.
We'll also talk about fascia and lymphatics and the role they play in the whole-body approach I use with my clients.
And we're going to look at the stories you have about yourself.
Maybe yours sounds like, "I'm never consistent."
Or, "I always start and then quit."
Or, "I've tried everything."
Those stories matter because they influence what you expect from yourself and what you do next.
The goal isn't to give you another 28-day plan that you follow perfectly and then abandon.
It's to help you understand your body, understand yourself, and start making choices that line up with what matters to you.
And you may start noticing some changes along the way.
Maybe you're not as hungry between meals. Your cravings aren't as intense. You're sleeping better. You have more energy. You feel less bloated. You feel stronger. Your clothes start fitting a little more comfortably.
Those early changes matter.
Not because they're the finish line, but because they're evidence that your body can respond when you give it the right support.
And from there, you can keep building.
That's the kind of change I'm interested in.
Not another diet that works as long as life is perfect.
Not another workout plan you force yourself to follow because you think you should.
A different way of taking care of yourself—one that's connected to the woman you want to be and the life you want to live.
The 28-Day Belly Reset starts October 19.
You'll get four weekly lessons, four journal exercises, four live coaching calls with me, practical resources and immediate access to The Power to Create Change, where we'll go even deeper into purpose, values and identity.
The investment is $97.
If you've been thinking about starting again, maybe this time the question isn't, "What's the next diet I should try?"
Maybe it's:
"What am I really trying to create with my health, and who do I want to become along the way?"
